National girls in ict Competition

The National Girls in ICT Competition is an initiative of the federal ministry of communications, innovations and digital economy focused on inspiring, equipping, and empowering young girls to explore technology, develop digital skills, and see themselves as future creators and leaders in the technology ecosystem.

Through Dopals Technologies’ involvement as a volunteer hub, the initiative provides girls with opportunities to gain practical exposure to technology, develop problem-solving skills, and participate in a competitive environment that encourages innovation and creativity.

The program goes beyond teaching girls how to use technology. It is about helping them understand that technology is something they can build with, create with, and use to solve real problems around them.

Creating Pathways into Technology

One of the biggest barriers to greater participation of girls in technology is often a lack of early exposure, confidence, mentorship, and access to practical learning opportunities.

The National Girls in ICT Competition helps address this by creating an environment where young girls can:

  • Explore Technology — gain exposure to ICT and emerging areas of technology.
  • Build Digital Skills — develop practical skills through hands-on learning and challenges.
  • Solve Problems — apply technology and creative thinking to real-world problems.
  • Innovate — turn ideas into technology-driven solutions.
  • Build Confidence — develop the confidence to participate in spaces traditionally dominated by others.
  • Connect with Mentors & Peers — learn from people within the technology ecosystem and collaborate with other young innovators.
  • Discover Career Possibilities — see the different educational and career pathways available within ICT and the digital economy.

Why It Matters

Nigeria’s digital future will require talent from every part of society.

For girls in particular, early exposure to technology can change the way they see their future — from being consumers of digital products to becoming developers, designers, entrepreneurs, engineers, innovators, and technology leaders.

The competition therefore serves as more than a skills-development initiative. It contributes to building a more inclusive technology ecosystem by giving young girls the opportunity to discover their potential at an early stage.

My Role

Through Dopals Technologies, I have supported the National Girls in ICT Competition as a volunteer hub, contributing to the initiative’s goal of increasing girls’ participation and exposure to technology.

This project reflects my broader commitment to digital inclusion, youth development, technology education, and creating opportunities for the next generation of African innovators.

I believe that building Africa’s technology ecosystem is not only about developing technology — it is about developing the people who will build its future.
